Overview of Main Activities: The work of the research group assumes that, despite the belief that organic products contain fewer additives that are harmful to health, have a higher nutritional value, and that organic farming reduces environmental problems and improves animal welfare, this has not been sufficiently studied. Little has been said about toxic substances in organic food.

Research and development activity in the Research Group
- Ave Kutman’s PhD thesis “Organic food in the catering of Estonian educational institutions: food composition, parents’ opinions and health perspective” (supervisors H. Anderson and Ü. Parm) aims to analyze and evaluate the need to use organic food in the catering of educational institutions, focusing on the food composition (macronutrients, micronutrients and residues).
Work hyoptheses:
- Organically grown food raw materials may contain residues of plant protection products.
- The macro- and micronutrient content of organic food offered in educational institutions does not differ significantly from non-organically grown food.
Ongoing Applied Research
- “Occurrence of hidden hunger among women who exercise regularly with heavy loads, follow various nutritional plans and are >65 years old” (Human Research Ethics Committee of the University of Tartu, protocol no. 340/T-2, 19.04.2021)
